PET MEMORIAL GARDEN

THE PET MEMORIAL GARDEN IS NOW A REALITY!!  IT WILL CONTINUE TO DEVELOP THROUGHOUT THE YEARS, BUT WE ARE NOW AT THE POINT WHERE WE CAN ACCEPT MEMORIALS FOR OUR LOVING PETS.

IT BEGAN IN JUNE OF 2011 WITH THE PLANTING OF A RED LEAF CHERRY TREE DONATED BY THE ALTAR GUILD IN MEMORY OF GERTRUDE SCHLEY.  A COMMITTEE WAS FORMED - JANIS DOWNEY, WILLIAM TROWBRIDGE, DOT AND JOHN SWART, LAUREN WELSH AND MYSELF AS CHAIR.  WE HAVE BEEN MEETING REGULARLY SINCE MARCH OF 2012.

ERIC MENDELSOHN FROM SALISBURY GARDEN CENTER DREW UP A DESIGN CONCEPT FROM WHICH EVOLVED THE WALKWAY.   THE COMMITTEE SPENT NUMEROUS HOURS ON MATERIAL CHOICE AND LAYOUT.  IN THE MEANTIME, ERIC RECOMMENDED STEPHEN BUNDSCHUH A STONE DESIGNER.  AS WE PROGRESSED WE FOUND IT MOST IMPORTANT TO CONTACT AN ENGRAVER AS WE WERE NOT CERTAIN IF THE MATERIAL WE HAD CHOSEN WOULD BE SUITABLE FOR ENGRAVING, THUS WE MET WITH GARY HEANEY FROM CORNWALL BRIDGE GRANITE COMPANY.  STEPHEN AND GARY WORKED TOGETHER  ON MATERIAL AND DESIGN. THE YEWS WERE REMOVED, STONE ORDERED AND THE WALKWAY IS INSTALLED. IF YOU HAVEN'T ALL READY DONE SO,  PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT AND LOOK OUT THE SOUTH WINDOWS OF THE PARISH HALL!

TO THIS POINT WE HAVE FUNDED THIS PROJECT WITH MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS FROM GERTRUDE SCHLEY, LINEY BARNES AND BUNNY SOUTHACK. THE GARDEN WILL CONTINUE TO DEVELOP AS FUNDS BECOME AVAILABLE.  PLANS FOR THE FUTURE INCLUDE PERENNIAL PLANTING, WATERING TROUGH FOR VISITING PETS, STONE BENCHES FOR MEDITATION (ONE OF WHICH WAS GIVEN BY THE CHILDREN OF JOHN AND DOROTHY SWART IN HONOR OF THEIR 50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY).  LAUREN WELSH DONATED A BIRD BATH WHICH WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO PLACING THIS COMING SPRING AND ALSO A GENEROUS MONETARY DONATION WHICH WILL HELP US WITH FURTHER PLANNING.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN DONATING TO THE GARDEN'S DEVELOPMENT OR IN MEMORIALIZING YOUR PET, PLEASE CONTACT ME AT 860-435-4676.  WE HAVE GUIDELINES AND APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE.
